Welcome to our home - The Himalayan Retreat ! Entering our gates you will immediately feel the warmth and care of a family run place. My wife and children have been a great source of inspiration for encouraging me to build this colonial style house with the emphasis on making guests feel “at home”. Hence, you can look forward to enjoying the coziness of a family home coupled with the comfort of a Himalayan retreat. We are sure you will treasure the experience of staying with us in this beautifully situated Home of a Garhwali native.
The Himalayan Retreat at Sursinghdhar village of New Tehri Uttarakhand is a standard quality Himalayan Retreat situated at 1850 meters, and is nestled in the pine forest atop a ridge providing a glorious panoramic view of the Himalayas. The beautiful Tehri Lake can be seen a stone’s throw distance away!! Dawn and dusk give a breathtaking view of the surroundings.

We have seven elegantly furnished standard rooms available which can be converted into Double rooms or twin rooms...All rooms are east facing which guarantees uninterrupted views of the High Himalayas and the valleys. Delicious ethnic Indian meals at The Himalayan Retreat are cooked fresh and always consist of different vegetarian cuisines and some sort of meat, either Chicken or Mutton. There is always a Garhwali native dish. Food can be taken in the dining room or in the garden or on the terrace which offers a romantic view of the beautiful surroundings. |

The Himalayan Retreat should attract those guests who are interested in nature. There are numerous spots and walks that can easily be covered by foot providing the glorious views of the Himalayas and the serene Tehri Lake which is nearly 40 km long. Visit to the typical Garhwali Villages and meeting the natives is an extraordinary experience. 10 km drive takes you to the Himalayan excursions to Dandachali which is set amidst thick virgin forests of Deodars, Oaks, Rhododendrons and Pine combined with the uninterrupted views of the high Himalayas. For more adventurous people an hour’s drive takes you to the base of Surkanda Devi temple (3050 meters) which is dedicated to Goddess Parvati the consort of Shiva from where one can feast the eyes with glorious panoramic views of the great Himalayas.
It is very important that between April to September the guests bring Light sweaters & Light jackets, woolen Hat etc. However between October to March Heavy sweaters & Heavy Jackets, woolen hats etc are required.
It is just 9 km from Chamba coming from Rishikesh and only 4 km. short of the main New Tehri town. A 1.5 km drive to the right of this junction, which is off the route to the main road, finally takes you to The Himalayan Retreat.
